Bird houses, Manitoulin Island, Canada, 1997On Canada's Manitoulin island, I visited part of the unceded Indian land near Manitowaning, which does not even officially belong to Canada.  It was to early for the season and there was little to do and see, but I noticed this remarkable bird house on an Indian property. Self-made sun at the day of the total solar eclipse, near Waiblingen (Stuttgart area), Germany, 1999-08-11The total solar eclipse of 11th August 1999 was a major event.  I lived near the center line at that time and went to the wineyards on a hill to watch it.  Unfortunately, there was an almost closed cloud cover and it rained. But I had brought my own sun with me, drawn on two sheets that were sewn together. "Meditating" car, Island of Madeira, 2002When I had parked my rented car on a parking lot, I recognized that the car to the left had a licence plate with the syllable "OM" on it that is holy for Hindus and Buddhists. Graffiti "Reclining Buddha", Berlin, 2003At the suburban train stop "Tiergarten" in Berlin, I found this graffiti right opposite the platform, during Easter 2003.  I called it "Reclining Buddha", because it resembled some of the reclining Buddha statues in Asia.  (Update: during Whitsun 2004, I visited it again.  I found that additional graffiti had been applied, but the original Buddha image was still intact. If "Popo" is understood as a German word, it causes funny associations: "Popo" simply means "bottom" or "bum".
