Sea of Tranquility

Photo Gallery: Little Things

Former industry site in Saarbrücken-Burbach, Germany, 1989On my way from Saarbrücken to Trier, I noticed several closed industry sites.  It was a strange feeling to walk on a ground that had once been busy, but now it was silent and nature was slowly winning the place back. Graffiti 'Birds' on Danube canal wall, Vienna, Austria, 2007I was walking along a Danube canal near Vienna's center, when I noticed this beautiful graffiti which reminded me of Flamingos. According to the artist's signature, it was created already 1996 but it was still fine. Canadian flag on ferry in Tobermory harbor, ON, Canada, 1997When the ferry left Tobermory for its journey to Manitoulin Island, I had the impression of being on the ocean although Lake Huron is an inland sea.

Painted house in Moscow, 1990During a visit to moscow, I spent some time on my own.  I found the painting on the house truly remarkable: an apple in a tree within an apple. Sunflower in my garden, near Stuttgart, Germany, 2003In the summer of 2003, the sunflowers in my garden were just blooming. The sunflower itself is gone for a long time (it is in bloom only once and then dies), but a little part of its beauty lives on in the picture. Buoys ashore, Cochem, Germany, 1989When I was in Cochem at the river Mosel, I went for a walk along the riverbank. At a place where the river buoys were stored, I found this interesting pair in contrasting colors.

Little flower among cobblestones in Reutlingen, Germany, 2007When I went shopping, I noticed this little flower that had sprung up in an entrance among all the cobblestones. Old Castle "Herzogskasten" in Ingolstadt, Germany, 2007A friend took me on a tour through his native town Ingolstadt in Bavaria, Germany. Among the numerous historical buildings, I found the Old Castle (also called "Herzogskasten", literally: "duke's barn") especially interesting because of its white façade and its interesting gable wall. Moon behind lighthouse Faro de Rasca, Teneriffa, 2006When I was about to combine the lighthouse's red-white color contrast with the dark blue sky for a photograph, I realized that the moon was in position that fitted in with the picture.
