Trees against evening dusk, Ulm, Germany, 1990When I walked home from a meeting, darkness began to fall.  Behind a little forest, a farmer's field was still a little bit lit, just enough to catch the trees' silhouette against the mildly lit clouds. Mushroom Beech, Ulm, Germany, January 1989On a foggy winter day, I went for a walk in Böfingen, one of Ulm's suburbs. On the field adjacent to the houses stood an old beech, popularly called the "Mushroom Beech" because of its shape.  It was a beautiful tree but was destroyed during a heavy storm in the summer of 1995.

Conifer on snowy Sälen fjäll, Sweden, May 1998When I spent a Whitsun holiday in a winter sports resort in Sweden, I did not expect winter to come back over night - I became nervous because I had only normal tires mounted on my car.  When got up the next day, I went for a hike in the wide, snow-covered hills, before it gradually melted away.

Tree at Lake Huron, Greenbush, MI, USA, 1997After a long day of driving, I finally decided to stop at a small hotel.  I was tired but I had a little walk along the shore, when I saw the gentle colors of the sunset. Trees on the Island of Madeira, 2005During a hike along a levada (water canal), I noticed the trees on the opposite slope that stood like a silhouette in front of the glittering ocean.
